If this is the way to go, just show me the results.
Where is the ongoing, regular growth?
If the 'cost' for people to attend a games convention is to perhaps pay more than they would for our own tournament, get stuck in a small room and have limited convenience and facilities there needs to be a measureable payoff.
Having one or two new people join the hobby over five or ten years is not the sort of investment return I am seeking.
I enjoy playing Dip at the pubs and clubs we have been having tournaments at. If there was good evidence that returning to gaming conventions would bring in new players (in any sort of decent numbers) I would have jumped at the opportunity.
We have been with gaming tournaments, and at times have returned to them. When we returned numbers were not increasing.
Maybe we could have put more effort into attracting new players once we were there? If so, would we have had any more success than you have had Edi? Dropping numbers of entrants from a much larger base.
Craig.

Exactly what I am trying to say.
You have to go to where the gamers are.
When I visited Downunder many years ago the basic feeling was that 'none of our guys are going to pay 30A$ to play Dip at a game convention.'
The point is that our guys will never get bigger unless you can pull in people from the general population. Most Diplomacy players are simply gamers
and gamers are always gamers just The Game changes from time. So why not reach out to the other gamers so that Diplomacy can be their The Game for a few years.

I agree with what you’re saying here. I have noticed over the years that Diplomacy tournaments have been held separate from the other tournaments going on in Australia. So we aren’t getting any passing trade coming in. An effort has to be made to be seen at these tournaments even if it’s only in a demonstration game. We can’t remain aloof from the rest of the hobby if we do we will wither away pretty much like we are now
