MessageThanks to Rob for organising and Ken for running the tournament.

It was a great weekend - the whole package rather than the Dip I would have to say........

I still can't believe England forced me into building a fleet (only fleet build) when he supported Austria into Tunis in the non-fleet third game.......Tournament winning move Mr Meerbach!

Craig.

  Subject: [Daanz-dip] Border Challenge results

Nine players attended the 2008 Border Challenge.

There was an intention to play the game as continuous tournament but due to the low numbers one game was played on each night.

Discussion prior to the first round was over how to play a six player game. We settled on leaving Italy empty with its supply centres being ignored while leaving Tunis with a single unit so that no power could walk into it. However Frank Meerbach turned up (he'd already told me he would be late) and we had 7 players.

The games were of a good quality but all finished at what I would consider the early mid-game (1904 / 5). This demonstrated the overall interest in playing dip. Round two introduced Simon Plumme and Sam Northe who had never played before. While the game was more a demonstration I was very impressed at how both players picked up the mechanics of the game.

As mentioned by round 3 was an interesting game and if it had been played out probably would have been a classic - however due to a lack of interest, it didn't happen. During the game I was in the delerium of a Carlton victory and the continued forced injection of alcohol into my body from the owner of the motel.

  On a personal note:
I'd like to thank Mr Callhammer for producing the greatest board game ever. But as many of my friends know, I have not enjoyed playing dip for 10 years now. Unless Craig asks me to direct another Dip tournament for him (which is very unlikely) this was my last game of dip. Sorry for being self-indulgent but its a personal thing for me and quite sad.

Here are the results (total points and centres / country for each round)

  1. Frank Meerbach 24 - 7 / E, 7 / G, 1 / A
  2. Craig Sedgwick 23 - 7 / T, 1 / R, 6 / I
  3. Ken Sproat 23 - 7 / A, 3 / T, 4 / R
  4. Shane Beck 22 - 9 / F, dnp, 6 / G
  5. Rob Stephenson 20.75 - 0.75 / R, 8 / F, 6 / T
  6. Bill Brown 17 - 3 / I, dnp, 7 / F
  7. Rohan Keane 17 - 1 / G, 3 / I, 4 / E
  8. Sam Northe 11 - dnp, 8 / E, dnp
  9. Simon Plumme 7 - dnp, 4 / A, dnp

I have the supply centre charts and the contact details for Sam and Simon. Who should I send them to?
