> If Sean has disappeared from the hobby, that is a loss in my opinion.
Sean has not disappeared form the hobby. I'd say he has stood down as
secretary so as to raise the dispute against the executive without
generating a conflict of interest - which in my humble opinion was the right
thing to do if he was insistant on raising the dispute (though I still wish
he didnt !).
I respect Sean for being passionate about diplomacy and for his loyalty to
his kids. He has been to EVERY tournament this year and I dont expect that
he will stop now. He's in with an excellent chance of winning the Bismark,
so (as appalled as he is on the age restriction issue) I'd even expect him
to show up at an affiliated GongCon if it were to go ahead. He is one of
the players who IS highly motivated by the Bismark and will travel long
distances to attend a tournament based purely on its affiliation.
The amount of effort he has put into the hobby has never been questioned.
Whether that effort has been appreciated or misdirected, however, is
debatable. He has good intentions and sincerely believes he is doing the
right thing. However, his methods and attitude toward people that dont share
his 'vision' is intolerant at best - intolerable at worst. He rubs a LOT of
people (including this black duck) the wrong way. I sincerely hope that in
future he can find a more constructive, open minded and tolerant way to
direct his energies in the hobby for the sake of everyone involved. Cooling
off and withdrawing the dispute would be a good start....but I wont be
holding my breath.
Live and let live I say. If we are doing things right, we should not be
losing ANYBODY from the hobby.
