>> ... and with only 3-4 people stating interest thus far,
there is some uncertainty as to whether you can get enough players ... I
personally, would prefer that you had a definite confirmed seven players
before this is even considered for affiliation in any way.

Grant,

It's not clear where the statistics came from. I'd venture to say that some ppl have indicated privately an interest to participate. So I'd respectfully submit to you that the genuine interest level is somewhat higher.

Furthermore, I believe most tournmts only ever get very few 'confirmed entries' prior to the event anyway, including main events like Aust Champs / Vic Champs etc. So it can hardly be a criterion, otherwise no event will ever get off the ground.

Thirdly, GongCon is not a 'new' event. It was not usual practice for established/scheduled events to have its participation level questioned.
If Frank Meerbach were to announce here that the Vic Champs will be on at the same time same place next year, I believe no one would question its interest level. It's pretty much 'come-what-may', and it gets affiliated nevertheless.
(If it turns out to be a flop, then it simply won't be held again.)

I'm not being argumentative, but I would respectfully urge you to take these realistic points into account.

>> With regards to 2 rounds and restrictions this is something that I am not
commenting on at this particular time.

I'd submit that those arguments were all a bit over the top, with regard to the 2-rounds and the age issue.
We have had tournmts with 5 rounds, 4 rounds and 3 rounds, over 4 or 3 or 2 days. A 2-round event is hardly objectionable. Honestly, if ppl don't think 2 rounds are worth it, they don't have to go.

I'd respectfully invite you (and the DAANZ) to adopt the view that any genuine Diplomacy event ought to be affiliated, unless there are compelling reasons against doing so.
I'd submit that DAANZ policy should be to expand; support for events ought to be presumed, and strong reasons given to explain the 'why not'.

Regards,
Tristan.
