Will,
Why if this is the biggest and the best haven't we got our best
tournament director directing proceedings?
Why isn't Craig or Ken the Tournament director on the day? I want a
tournament director who is going to stay there all day every day when
things get tough. I don't want someone who walks out half way through
the tournament throwing a hissy fit. I will not be taking part in the
tournament if I believe it will look bad. I will be playing carcassone
or settlers if I don't go to Sydney.
Rob

In regards to the announcement of ADC 2007 being held at AGE
2007
It was a hard decision, but not being involved whole haertedly
100% with The Australian Game Expo (AGE) would be the worst decision of
all.
We have so much to gain form this association the AGE, and
little to lose.
The NSW Champs, will saddly have to move to some other weekend
that suited the organisor. The relative success of the NSW
champs its what
has made it a hard decision to use the same weekend. Having
concurrent
tournaments on the same weekend would show that the DAANZ is not
really
interested in the AGE. So really only decision is to go the
whole hog, call
it the Australian Diplomacy Championships, have 1st prize as a
trip to WDC.
The Exec (and hopefully the memebers of the DAANZ as a whole)
are looking at
ways to grow our hobby and move forward to attract and retain
the next
generation of players as well as keeping the current players.
The Exec feels
that this opportunity of a Nationally focused Game Expo is
something we need
to be involved in as its potential to grow is huge.
As the Event is The Australian Game Expo, nothing shorter than
the
Australain Championships would suffice. We need to be able to
compete with
the Australian Carcassonne & Australian Settlers of Catan
tournament. We
will have a similar first prize - Return Airfare & Accommodation
to attend
the 2007 World Diplomacy Championships. We need to show the
potential
players we have the goods to offer and that our hobby is well
organised. We
need to be able to offer something to potenial sponsors. Naming
it The
Australian Championships gives respect to the tournament as a
whole and will
enlarge the list of potential participants and sponsors, aswell
as boosting
the effectiveness for our Hobby of any advertinsing the
Australian Games
Expo does.
Hasbro, the manufacturer of Diplomacy, is a major sponsor.
Currently
Diplomacy is OUT OF PRINT, and with our hobby showcased at the
Expo it will
go a long way to changing this circumstance, as influential
representatives
from Hasbro will be in attendance.
There were Pros and Cons abounding on all sides. But something
needs
to be done to revitalise our hobby and this is the only thing
that has come
along in quite some time.
Things are going down hill in Australia & NZ for diplomacy, and
this
Australian Games Expo will have National Capital City
Advertising and
drawing 1000's of people along.
Information about the Tournament
The Tournament will be Held over 3 days with 1 round each day.
Sean Colman
will be the Tournament Organisor & Tournament Director, Liasing
with the
Australian Game Expo Organisors, and securing sponsorship for
this
tournament to provide for an entry of just $30.00 per player for
the 3
rounds. There will be of course a 1st Prize of Return Airfares &
Accomodation to the World Diplomacy Championships 2007 August in
Vancouver
Canada.
The Diplomacy tournament is being scheduled so people can play
in the
Diplomacy Tournament & either of the Carcassonne or Settlers
Tournament.
Thus making it so people do not have to choose between the
Diplomacy
tournament and either of the 2 other tournaments.
In 2007 people will not be able to play both the Settlers &
Carcassonne
Tournaments as happened in 2006.
So come along and enjoy what should be the biggest Diplomacy
Tournament in 5 years, the
Exec is looking for new blood and old blood to join and combine
for the greater hobby.
Will Black
President of DAANZ
