[Daanz-dip] ANZAC Cup 2006 - TDs Report

This methodology has been employed before (through Dip2000, refer to games Silly Dip/Son of silly) in which MSN Messenger was used in conjunction with a private room scenario for bulk messaging.

It worked well, but I would consider 5 minutes a bit short, unless this is after the map is updated each turn. (eg. 5 minutes plus map creation time).

It is pretty hectic, and a LOT OF FUN.

Good luck on pursuing real time Internet diplomacy.

Three cheers for the TD - congratulations Greg on running a fantastic tournament. The games were fun to play, the banter in the email messages from all players was great. The ship was run tightly with deadlines met by most players and the updates once moves were adjudicated were prompt - you could set your watch to Greg's timing :)

I am looking forward to playing in similar events in the future, and am looking forward to playing against people over the board again.

For something different I am looking to run a "real time" game in January. At this stage I am thinking of using a telnet ew-too based talker as the environment for which the game shall be run in. This interface allows players to speak to each other privately or to the group as a whole. I believe owing to the rapid ability that players would be able to communicate to each other that 5 minute deadlines would be realistic - thus allowing games to be rapidly completed within a 1-2 hour period.

For those of you who haven't seen a telnet type talker try these following addresses:

telnet://foothills.tk:2010/

telnet://crazlands.org:6969/

The interface is a bit crude - just black and white text - but this combined with access to a website that updates the board position would allow for good quality real time games....

To talk to everyone type " say hello everybody" or " ' hello everybody " to tell one person you type "tell <player name> msg"

Let me know if you think this could be a goer and if you are interested in playing...

Dave :)
